I remember the days when I went with my mother all over the place to fetch water for the family’s daily needs. Nothing sad I felt. I used to get excited when someone alerted us (everyday someone will alert the others in the street) if any of the nearby farmers had started their pumpsets to irrigate their crops and that was the time we run to their farms to steal some water and fill our water storage. Water storage in the house has been part of my growing up, part my culture-may not be the popularly known indian culture, but my culture from my area, from my family. It instilled some attitude towards life. My Aachi (grandma) used to say that you can tell a person’s attitude towards life from how he/she uses/wastes water.

Here is the latest episode of Satyamev Jayate on Water. What a beautiful way to compose music at the end!

getting only better!

Some good discussions. Some good analyses. Some pleasantly surprising people.

Satyamev Jayate – episode3

Looks like I might be linking all the episodes. so, decided to make it searcheable later if I want to look through my old posts.

In episode 3, it is about dowry and big fat wedding.
Note to people (after browsing through some comments at the Satyamev Jayate site):

  1. When the issue of “dowry” is addressed, it is not about marital problems men (or women) face in the marriage. It is just about “issue of dowry”
  2. dowry is always asked by the “boy” side family, and proudly given by the girl side family, in some cases, if I have to be politically correct, but in most cases, imho.
  3. the blame is not on men.
  4. when will people ever stop passing the blame and really see the issue being addressed?

Now the episode:

I watched one with subtitles on but can’t find it now.

another one from the good man

At this rate I may end up linking every episode of Mr. Aamir Khan

  1. what an idiot and a conditioned this women this Padma is to think that her sister’s life will be ruined when her son was being abused by the sister’s husband, for the past 11 years! what a ridiculous conditioning was that!
  2. what an idiot culture is this to not to report on a paedophile but keep it within the family? “confronting”, yeah right!
  3. what about abuse by a parent,  which is one of the common cases of child abuse?

My fight is with women

Below is a wonderful episode by Aamir Khan. Well made and well presented. Such issues go very well for a good watch, and a good discussion over dinner at friends’. But what happens in reality? Women feel proud when a boy child is born. Women raise their boys with “boisterous” qualities. Women do not let their boys clean after they eat. .. My fight is with those women. Especially with those, the well educated, out and about in the very privileged world. Yet chose to, well, very proudly so, raise their boys teaching explicitly and loud in some households, implicitly, mild may be yet obviously in some other households to treat the women as lesser beings.

Society begins with individuals. You and me. I am doing my bit.  Are you?
