How did that happen!
July 8, 2008 at 8:04 pm | In Baby | 10 Comments
You are half an year old today. How did that happen!!
You are grabbing the DVD remote as I type this post. the DVD remote is slippery to you and has moved a bit forward. lying on your momma’s hand you are all set to get it. that book distracted you. you want to shred it into pieces before you move on to your next target. momma is happily typing with one hand. one page of the book has come out and you are happily chewing… oops, it has fallen off the table. so, you are on to get another page, alas, the whole book has fallen off now. hey, that remote too.
you tried your best to grab that laptop, but as your mom is as multitasking woman as you are, she manages to keep you off her laptop with one hand and typing using the other. but you are fast like your mom that you have moved to that hole like space between the coffee table and the sofa where you just have spotted the book. nope mom lifted you. okay, you have got mom’s hands now that you can chew too, don’t you?
you are growing up normally like any other six month old should. Your dad is unhappy that your height falls on the 75th centile graph. He sure is a proud dad who can get disappointed that there can be babies taller than you..
your mom is no any special mom but a regular mom. She still hasn’t come to terms with the term amma. Probably she will when you start calling her so. She had planned some special nice photo shoots but ended up taking some regular pictures. she is very proud of you when you don’t let her use her laptop. your hands are all over the laptop as I type this. you are lying cosily on her on hand, while she types and keeps your legs and hands away from this post using the other hand. you are exploring everything that your hands and legs can reach.
I have to post this. I know it is not complete. I know it is nowhere near what I had planned for today. but I am enjoying you completely. every moment with you. that is all it matters. One of your mom’s theories about her being a perfectionist is, “perfection is a relative term. if the situation demands this has to be finished NOW, then finishing NOW is the perfection rather than perfecting it”
I hope it make sense.
Avni is six months old or 26 weeks old today
Solids so far - 2
July 4, 2008 at 8:27 pm | In 0 to 6 months, Baby, baby food | 5 CommentsWith my baby turning half an year old in four days, I have started feeling ……….. really old, well, finally
I just want to record the tastes she has been introduced to so that I can add other tastes in her food too to make her a less fussy eater. A mother can hope, can’t she?
First few weeks: (copied from old post)
-
- Baby rice
- Potato
- Banana
- Banana + baby rice
- Pears + baby rice
- Carrot + baby rice
Favourite - banana
not so favourite - carrot. I guess this disproves the theory that babies like what mothers ate during their preggy days.
conti.
- Apple puree + baby rice
- Mango (ripe) - hot favourite
- Sweet potato - resulted in firmer poo so I gave mango again
- Mango - poo continued to be firmer
- Sweet potato (again introduced to see if the poo situation continues or clears or gets worse. It didn’t clear)
- pears - to help with poo situation
- cauliflower & cheese by cow & Gate
- Carrot - re introduced to make her like the taste. nope Avni rejected it again.
- fruit cocktail by Cow & Gate
- Sweet potato bake by Cow & Gate plus pears.
- baby rice and pears
- Sweet corn and Carrot - some separate and some mixed
- pears and pears water - this cleared the poo situation finally
- creamy rice breakfast by Hipp Organic
- Vegetable and Chicken casserole by Heinz - some shouting and jumping out of joy were shown. Avni started crying out of impatience when the portion was finished. but she was fine with milk after that I am assuming it was just hunger.
Avni is four days to six months old or 25 weeks and 3 days old
Dieting
July 3, 2008 at 10:15 am | In post-delivery | 2 CommentsI have started dieting from yesterday. I want to make it official and recorded so that I do not look for excuses to escape from it. Early morning weight weighed today - 55.6kilos. I also want to measure the circumference of my tummy and record it. I have to dig in the store room to get the tape out. so, it has to wait.
added:
circum of my tummy - 97cm
some credits to myself: Have lost 4.5 kilos since the delivery. one kilo lost in the last month
Target - Pre pregnancy weight - 50 kilos.
I take my word back

yet another hectic weekend
July 1, 2008 at 2:49 pm | In life | 6 CommentsWhen I was living alone working in the north, weekend days used to be my really relaxing days. I had to wash clothes by hand as I didn’t have a washing machine. I didn’t get my clothes ironed by paying someone, but I did it myself as I had certain standards which others couldn’t match
, still my weekend days were very relaxing days. Washing the entire house using buckets and buckets of water starting from the top shelf of the kitchen to finishing it with the concrete floored front yard couldn’t tire me out either. I did shopping, I cooked special weekend meals. Still they were relaxing days. I had plenty of time left. They were of the same 24 hours duration as these current weekend days are. Still I had plenty of time left that I used to knit sweaters.
Last weekend started with Balan asking me to get ready to go for shopping as he was coming early on Friday evening. I did. But there was just half an hour left by the time Balan reached home. I wanted go out as I was ready to go out. So went to the Nandos. I tasted Sangria for the first time. I am not sure I liked it. but the eating out was nice.
Balan had to work on Saturday. I was supposed to do some reading. but I didn’t. in between babysitting and cooking, I watched two movies with my brother. I asked Balan to go to the market himself on his way home. He didn’t bring Salmon for the salmon night. So, we decided to cook some potato curry and ate it with frozen dopla. more babysitting. That is all I could do on Saturday. I was tired to the say the least.
Sunday started with customary phone calls to families. Some essential kitchen cleaning is all we could do. Balan and my brother went to help a friend move their house. They took Avni with them as I needed to do some serious reading. Another friend phoned and visited us in the evening. Balan was sent to get some essential ingredients quickly and I prepared two types Vadais. Just before the guests were leaving, Avni vomited huge amount as her feeding routine that day was slightly different, that her dad stuffed her with too much milk. She was active and smiling. So I stopped worrying. The day ended with my brother upsetting me because I asked the TV showing food ball to be switched off as I wanted some quietness to help me wind down. I had an early start the next day, so I wanted to get some sleep as I was anticipating sleepless night with Avni. I ended up sleeping very late as I was discussing many things with Balan. Avni woke up few times too.
I do not like to drive long drives. I love long drives as long as I am a passenger. We were on time until one hour before our planned departure. then, we were little slow and got delayed by half an hour. Thanks to Balan’s driving skills that we reached the place well in time. The interview went alright. no biggie. Balan and Avni enjoyed their stroll in that town. We were discussing about things we have to sort out if this job materialises. We stopped at our friend’s place for dinner on our way back. I lost the track of time and ended up chatting until 9pm. Two hours drive, we reached home. Avni was unsettled for sometime before she finally settled for the night. That is how Monday went.
Tuesdy started with us all waking up late. I had physio appointment in the morning. Balan’s surgery appointment had to be cancelled. I phoned the agency to find out if he has got any feedback. nope. They haven’t decided yet. Yeah right! I thought I surely will get this job. nope. not yet.
All I want to do right now is sleep. Thanks to Balan, my rock, that bottles have been sterilised and flasks are full with boiled water. I just have to do the washing. Then I can sleep for at aleast couple of hours, if Avni will allow me.
Five months plus
June 18, 2008 at 2:36 pm | In Baby | 2 CommentsAvni can roll over on both sides now.
She can sit up without supports for few minutes.
She can stand up holding on to the sofa for few minutes.
She tries to pull her back up when lying on her tummy trying to go on her fours.
She can put her toe into her mouth.
Laughing sessions like this baby are very regular these days. Her tantrum sessions are even more regular.
She has learnt a new style of crying that she practises it even when she is playing!
Too clingy. she wants me to be sitting just next to her most of the time. But her special smiles are reserved for her dad and for her uncle (my brother).
Avni is ok with strangers and new faces as long as some familiar faces are in the vicinity. If she can be on one of our laps, then she has absolutely no problem with strangers and new faces.
Avni is 23 weeks and a day old or five months and 10 days old.
Some nice people
June 16, 2008 at 3:29 pm | In tag | No CommentsThe pending tag from Asha needs to be done. She says I am nice. How can I not do that nice tag?!
The creator of the award (whoever it be) says,
“This award will be awarded to those that are just nice people, good blog friends and those that inspire good feelings and inspiration! Those that care about others that are there to lend support or those that are just a positive influence in our blogging world!”
I pass on the award to, all my blog friends. Please take up the tag. Thanks.
Weekend activity
June 16, 2008 at 3:17 pm | In life | 6 CommentsI suppose I should have stood strong in opposing the plan of going to the cinema hall to watch the movie Dasavathaaram as I did for Sivaji. that too when taking Avni to a movie which is not a children movie was totally agsinst my policy. But I just let it go. The movie wasn’t worth the time is a different matter. In a way it saved me from playing hostess for some unplanned guests as we were already out by the time they called us. For a change we dined at the Nandos in the Indian area.

Avni is on two meals a day now. Breakfast and lunch. We have now got the good night sleep back, losing which is what made us introduce the solids earlier than previously planned six months timeline.

successes and failures
June 5, 2008 at 5:07 pm | In Baby | 6 CommentsSuccess - I made pureed potato myself and Avni loved it.
Failure - Just came across elinimation communication and wanted to try it. I was waiting for her signlas to poo. When she did, I just wanted to be sure, so waited for few more minutes. She pooed in nappy itself. I took her to the toilet without disturbing her too much. Removed the nappy, and waited. She wouldn’t do. she stopped doing. I didn’t have wet wipes ready nearer as I wasn’t prepared. I used dry tissues holding her in one hand. she cried. We gave up. she hasn’t completed the job for the day yet. ![]()
